Early Wacky Black Friday Giveaway

Call me crazy but the only thing I’ve ever loved about Black Friday is the crazy Black Friday Target Lady who has now been retired from Target ads. I say bring her back!

I’ve participated in this insane, I’ll-beat-you-over-the-head-with-my-$10-popcorn-maker-if-you-get-in-the-way-of-my-$5-omelet-skillet shopping blowout day exactly once. I have to admit, I just don’t need that $10 popcorn maker badly enough to risk bodily harm. Nor do I wish to be out amongst shoppers who can be just rude (and scary) and customer service people who can be exhausted and cranky. I’m really not much of a shopper to begin with. I usually go to a store with something specific in mind and I’m outta there in a few minutes.

My weaknesses are TJ Maxx, Gordman’s, and Sam Moon’s. In those stores I can wander aimlessly for hours and I never leave the store without a substantial ding to my pocketbook. Heaven forbid there are holiday decorations involved!

For this giveaway there will be THREE winners! Each will receive a Sweet, Texas coffee mug, a box of Anything But Sweet candy conversation hearts, and a signed book of your choice (choose from Second Chance at the Sugar Shack, Any Given Christmas, Somebody Like You, For Love and Honor, or Anything But Sweet.

All you need to do is leave a comment here on my blog. Tell me whether you engage in Black Friday Shopping and what you’d be willing to stand in line (in the cold) all night to buy.

Winners will be randomly selected. Giveaway ends and winner will be announced Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 6:00 (MST) pm. As always, this giveaway is open to my international friends.

SWEETEST MISTAKE–Book 2 in the Sweet, Texas series will be available on December 31, 2013. I have some fun things planned so stay tuned. SWEETEST MISTAKE IS NOW AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER. Just go to my home page and click on your favorite place to purchase books (available in both e-book and print).

After years of working retail, I am definitely not a Black Friday shopper. I am not willing to stand in line for much of anything, especially since I am spoiled by online shopping.

  2. PamM says:

It really just depends. If I have some extra money I will go if I don’t have any I won’t go. I used to have to work it so I know how much a hassle it can be.

  3. Sue Peace says:

Living in Canada, we don’t have Black Friday though some places have started having Black Friday sales. I don’t enjoy usual mall crowds, never did the big Boxing Day sale shopping either, so I probably would hide out at home on Black Friday!

  4. Crystal Bell says:

I live in Canada so no Black Friday for us but I wouldn’t be shopping anyways cause I don’t like crowds.. πŸ™‚

I desperately miss the crazy Target lady, too! she’s a hoot. I HATE Black Friday and will not leave the house on that day! I am not a person to engage in disagreements, I would rather walk away because I don’t think it’s worth it, but about 15 years ago, I decided to do my Christmas shopping in one day. I was working nights as an RN, so I didn’t realize what day it was until I was jammed into TJ MAXX. There was a woman who was blocking the way into jewelry, scarves, etc. and when the woman in front of me who was behind this #itch asked her nicely if she could move, she turned around and blasted this woman. Well, I WILL engage if I see unnecessary rudeness and bullying and I tore this woman a new one without even popping a sweat! She huffed and puffed and moved on and I thought, “Okay, it’s time for me to go home!” That is the main reason why I will not go out on Black Friday!!!

As you know I am a nurse, I always take thanksgiving night off. Will work any other holiday of the year. I enjoy the turkey dinner too. The shopping I love. We never know what we are going for until we see the adds . I like the cheap DVD ‘s. I always buy things that I really don’t need. The shopping just gets me in the mood for the holiday season. Jenny always goes with me, her boyfriend even went with us last year. Not sure if I am crazy about the earlier hours. Jenny sitting next to me right now and we are starting to plan our stops already .

  7. Jamie Steadman says:

I loved watching the Target lady. I went last year and I didn’t have any problems with the crowd, I guess what I needed no one else wanted. LoL! I doubt I will go this year unless its something I really need at a very low price.

  8. Jenny says:

I love black Friday shopping! Mom and I always go and David has joined us now as well :). I am hoping to buy some boots this year! I bought them a few weeks ago, but am returning them and getting them on black friday for half the price I paid.. I think our plan is walmart followed by khols followed by target. πŸ™‚

  9. alisha woods says:

Don’t normally do it. Can’t imagine what I would stand out in the cold at night.

  10. Karen Harvey says:

No real Black Friday here in Canada but some stores will advertise for sales for it. I’m with you…don’t like big sales and crowds. I like smaller neighbourhood shops and book stores to visit and browse. I like to support local.

  11. Ginger M. says:

    Online shopping.

  12. Melissa I says:

I love a great deal, but the only Black Friday shopping I do is from my couch in my pajamas with my laptop. I love the great deals on Amazon.com- and even more that they start those sales as early as now.

I haven’t been and will never be one of the crazies that stand out in the cold for 5 hours to get a TV for $50 πŸ™‚ My time is worth more than the deal πŸ™‚

  13. Donna A says:

My daughter and I go but mostly for people watching. Every now and then we will buy something but only if the line isn’t outrageous.

  14. Carrie E says:

I love Black Friday shopping!!!! My husband and I divide and then have breakfast together at Sam’s Club.

  15. Karen j says:

Ive went several times. I try really hard not to be one of those rude people tho! πŸ˜‰ The first time I went we were visiting family in NC and went to a mall in Charlotte. NEVER AGAIN! lol It was unreal! I learned my lesson there for sure. But now a few years ago, my neice, my daughter and I went. We hit Kohls and stood in line for a couple of hours. But more than anything, we just had fun! I don’t do the whole, stand outside for hours in the cold for that one tv they have thing but I don’t mind waiting in line in the store for a bit. I don’t think Im going this year tho..

  16. Pam B says:

I work retail, have for over 10 years. I would never willingly be in a store on a holiday because that means someone has to work and miss their family on a holiday.

  17. Sue G says:

I love to shop on Black Friday! I stay up late Thursday night and place a few online gift orders. My daughter and I get up at 4 am, fill our coffee mugs and drive to our first store. We got some amazing deals last year. My daughter is in college and she is able to shop at her favorite stores and get clothes that she needs. We have a budget and we stick to it. Last year, I used the Kohls cash from our Black Friday shopping, plus a 30% coupon and got a Keurig for $47! My daughter was thrilled when she opened the package!

  18. Mippy/Sabrina says:

HECK NOOOO! No Black Friday for me unless it’s online. I don’t like crowds and certainly not aggressive people in crowds…lol. I don’t think there is anything at this moment I would stand in line for out in the cold unless it was free maybe or close to free. Maybe for a house or a car…anything else…probly not.

  19. Kasey Crees says:

I have never heard of Black Friday. But i don’t think i would par-take in it.
Pretty much only things i would stand in line for is Free Chocolate by the bulk load, or to get a signature from one of my favourite book authors. Like yourself. And No. I am not sucking up. It is the truth.

  20. Candis Terry says:

I might consider that overnight waiting line in the cold if Broncos Wide Receiver Eric Decker or Thor’s Chris Hemsworth were up for grabs!

  21. Terry Gregson says:

You and I have discussed how I feel about Black Friday, especially after working in retail for 30 plus years. I would rather pay full price for everything than to go near a store on Black Friday! I would rather stick a hot needle in my eye, walk on coals, well you get the idea. This black Friday I am getting my nails done with a friend who also agrees with us on the topic! Happy signing tomorrow!!

  22. Diane Sallans says:

I don’t know Gordman’s or Sam Moon’s but I love TJ Maxx/Home Goods/Marshalls! I don’t plan on going out shopping on Black Friday – mostly because I hate the crowds both in the parking lots & in the checkout lines. I’ll do some online shopping tho. Some stores have already started special early black friday offers online so I’m checking those out.

  23. Sue Smallwood says:

No never do, I say Black Friday is for novices, I am a Pro Shopper.

  24. Ada says:

I can’t say I’ve ever braved the border to shop on Black Friday but I’ve done the Canadian equivalent for our Boxing Day on Dec 26th. I won’t do it every year but once in a while, there’s a deal I just have to try and I’ll line up.

  25. Anita H. says:

Lining up overnight (or 2 nights before) to get a good Black Friday deal is just a little over the top for me. Being Canadian, I’ve not gone to any Black Friday sales but I would like to shop online without the hassle of hordes of people fighting for a few items and long lineups just to pay! πŸ™‚

  26. Emily B. says:

I do go to a few black Friday sales but I wait until the stores are open and I can go right in, I am not going to wait for hours in the freezing cold like a lot of people do.I like doing the online shopping more where I don’t have to deal with the crowds or waiting in the cold.

  27. Wehaf says:

I don’t shop on black friday, and I can’t think of anything I would stand in line in the cold for. Maybe a mansion?

  28. Julie says:

    I don’t shop on Black Friday πŸ™‚
    thanks for the giveaway

  29. Candis Terry says:

  30. Alexis says:

I do go black friday shopping, but I’m not willing to stand in line all night unless it’s something big where I’m really going to save a lot of money- like a high end vacuum cleaner or TV.

  31. DeeAnn Rivera says:

I had Thankgiving at my house for my family this year. No one participated that were in attendance, since Black Friday actually started on Thankful Thursday. There were only 3 people sober enough and old enough to hit the stores and we were having too much fun to shop. I have no idea what the specials were and I doubt they would have added more to my life than my family and friends did.

  32. It’s very straightforward to find out any matter on web as compared to books,
as I found this post at this web site.
